ARCHIVED - Torre Pacheco-Los Alcázares road under water
Avoid the road to Mar Menor Golf Resort and others in the Campo de Cartagena
As floodwater continues to cascade towards the Mar Menor from the crop fields of the Campo de Cartagena the main RM-F30 road between Los Alcázares and Torre Pacheco, which leads to the Mar Menor Golf Resort, has been added to the list of those made impassable by the second “gota fría” storm of the autumn of 2019 in the Region of Murcia.
The flooding is at its most severe in the town centre of Los Alcázares, where residents have been urged to remain at home except for those who have been evacuated, but as the picture after the violent storm during the night becomes clearer it is likely that the situation will be similar in Torre Pacheco, as it was during the previous gota fría storm in September.
Those in the Mar Menor Golf Resort and other similar developments should not be lulled into thinking they are somehow immune from the destruction, and should also avoid taking to the roads if at all possible. Puddles may appear to be passable but sudden increases in the flow rate of the water as it heads towards the Mar Menor can easily carry vehicles downstream.
In addition, Aemet continue to warn that further heavy rain is possible on Tuesday although the alert status has been downgraded from orange to yellow, and precautions should be taken until the risk has passed.
