ARCHIVED - Spectacular Valencia Fallas make welcome return but with mandatory mask-wearing
Valencia City Council promises a fiesta of fireworks and giant statues "similar to that of 2019"
Fallas celebrations are already taking place in the Valencia region, but the biggest and most spectacular world-famous festival will be held in the city from March 14 to 19.
And the city council has promised "Falles similar to those held in 2019", although mask wearing is mandatory in crowds.
The local authority met on Wednesday March 9 with the Local Civil Protection Board to prepare and coordinate the different municipal services during the Fallas festivities, such as health and safety measures.
Following the discussions, Valencia Mayor, Joan Ribó, pledged "we are going to recover the pulse of the Fallas we have missed for the last couple of years due to cancellations" and confirmed that "all services will be provided as though we were in a situation of normality".
However, she stressed the importance of wearing a mask "which is mandatory at events with a large volume of people".
"The assembly of the Fallas is complex, and it is necessary to coordinate many municipal services such as Civil Protection, fire, local police and cleaning with other regional and state services, such as the Guardia Civil.
Valencia Fallas feature fireworks and giant papier mache ninots which are burned at the end of the festival, and traditionally attract around a million people from across the country and further afield.
