ARCHIVED - Road safety improvements on the N-332 Alfaz del Pi-Albir will begin early 2022
Two roundabouts will be created on the N-332 in the Marina Baixa, Alicante province, to eradicate 'accident blackspots'

Major road safety improvements will be carried out on the N-332 between Alfaz del Pi and Albir early next year to eradicate 'an accident blackspot' and enhance motorist, pedestrian and cyclist safety in general.
The project will involve the construction of two roundabouts along the intersection between the N-332, Camí La Mar and Avenida de l'Albir. This is the main junction between the two major urban centres where traffic jams are the norm, it's also become "a particularly dangerous area" for pedestrians, cyclists and users of personal mobility vehicles.
"Finally we can respond to repeated complaints from members of the public about safety levels on this stretch. We have the necessary budget for the work which will begin in the first quarter of 2022.
"This solution will not only lighten the flow of road traffic at this point, but also make it safer for the growing number of users of other types of vehicles, as well as pedestrians," said Councillor for Town Planning, Toni Such.
He also stressed that the Town Council has tried to address safety issues on "several occasions in the past, but always came up against various obstacles from the Ministry", which until recently owned the road.
However, the liberalisation of the AP7 allowed the local council to apply for the municipalisation of the section of the N-332 which runs through Alfaz del Pi, thereby removing the administrative obstacles.

A budget of almost 1.6 million euros has been allocated for the road safety improvement which are expected to take 12 months to complete.
Two roundabouts will be created; a main one at what is known as the McDonald's crossroads, and another smaller one in Avinguda Sant Pere.
The project will also improve connectivity between the urban area of Alfaz and Albir through the existing bike lane sections and the creation of a new 1,000-metre section which, in addition to cyclists, will give continuity to pedestrian access.
"As well as providing a solution for road traffic that converges at this point, the work will also mean a significant improvement in the safety of all users with the creation of a secure crossing area for pedestrians and cyclists from one side of the N-332 to the other," said the town planner, adding that the scheme includes the construction of a cycle lane from the Tram stop to the current intersection between the N-332 and Avenida de l'Albir; the creation of a roundabout at the same point, another one that will serve Avenida Sant Pere and a cycle lane that will connect these last two points.
