ARCHIVED - Pedro Sanchez and Coldplay discuss climate change on Twitter
The President of Spain was also tweeted by rock group Black Eyed Peas
The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, entered into an unusual Twitter conversation this week with none other than international singing sensations Coldplay. The British rock band took to social media to encourage world leaders to take a more active role in the fight against climate change, and Mr Sánchez was not slow in responding.
The group asked the president to “lead the way”, claiming that the smallest economies are the ones most affected by climate change while the major players aren’t contributing enough funding. Mr Sánchez replied directly to the tweet on Wednesday September 22, writing: “Happy to support the global citizens' initiative and its broad objectives.”
Incredibly, on the very same day, American music group Black Eyed Peas also reached out to the Spanish president, this time asking if poorer countries could “count on” Spain to ensure that everyone has equal access to coronavirus tests and vaccines. Once again, Mr Sánchez was quick to offer his support, tweeting, “I’m in!”.
I'm in, @bep! Spain has just committed to donate an extra 7.5 million doses of vaccines through COVAX and a new financial contribution to UNITAID to strengthen the therapeutic pillar of the ACT-A.

Spain’s leader reminded the musicians that this country has already committed to donating 7.5 million surplus vaccine doses through the COVAX initiative, something which was reiterated by the Minister of Health earlier this week.
The interaction between Mr Sánchez and these global superstars naturally caused quite a stir in the online community, with one Twitter user calling him “the first millennial president in the history of Spain.”
