ARCHIVED - Orange weather warning for 40 degrees remains in place in the Region of Murcia
The high-temperature alert issued in the Region of Murcia remains in place with updates to yellow maximum temperature warnings.
The State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, maintains an orange weather warning for maximum temperatures that could be set to reach up to 40 degrees in the Vega del Segura region between 12 pm and 9 pm on Tuesday, July 6.
The “extreme heat situation” predicted by Aemet is set to continue as the hot start to the month of July in south-eastern Spain means temperatures look likely to stay in the high 30s or low 40s in much of the Region of Murcia, Alicante and Benidorm.
During the weekend maximums of 40 or 41 degrees were recorded in and around the city of Murcia, specifically in the regional capital and Molina de Segura, located alongside the River Segura in the Vega del Segura.
Along with the maintained orange warning on Tuesday, July 6, a yellow warning for 39 degrees is still in place in the Altiplano region between 12 pm and 9 pm.
However, there have been some other regions added to the yellow warning list with maximum temperatures of 38 degrees expected in the northwest regions of Murcia as well as the Valle del Guadalentín, Lorca and Águilas.
Again, these highs are expected between 12 pm and 9 pm on July 6.
The State Meteorological Agency and 112 Emergency Services of Murcia have warned residents and tourists in these areas to take care of themselves; making sure to drink plenty of water, avoid heavy and hot meals as well as avoiding playing sports during these high-temperature hours, using air-con systems when necessary and wearing comfortable, light-coloured clothing.
Please stay safe and protect yourself from the heat.
