ARCHIVED - New tourist promenade on the Dique de Poniente in Torrevieja
Torrevieja will offer an alternative walk opposite the Dique de Levante
The Dique de Levante is one of the most popular attractions in Torrevieja, with crowds of people enjoying a stroll along its 1.4-kilometre length throughout the year, and it has now been announced that a shorter alternative is to be created on the other side of the port on the Dique de Poniente.
As part of an 11.7-million-euro plan to reclaim land for urban use after the construction of the desalination plant at the southern end of Torrevieja, a contract worth 769,991 euros has been awarded to Becsa SA to improve access to the jetty and endow it with street furniture and shaded areas. In this way locals and visitors will be able to enjoy their morning constitutionals or evening strolls on either side of the harbour in the future.
The “new” Dique de Poniente will feature a 650-metre paved walkway complete with street lights, drinking water and plants. In addition, palm trees will be planted at the start of the jetty next to the Playa de los Náufragos to provide shade and improve the aesthetics of the area.
