ARCHIVED - Murcia courts approve use of Covid passports in nightlife sector
Parties in Murcia, such as weddings or christenings, can also enforce Covid certificates for guests
After the regional government requested the use of Covid certificates or ‘passports’, in nightclubs and private celebrations, the High Court in Murcia has approved the decision this Friday October 22.
However, this new rule won’t be mandatory and businesses can choose whether or not to ask customers for Covid certificates.
The advantage for venues choosing to apply the rule is that they will be able to increase their maximum occupancy limit to 100%, as long as they are in municipalities at health alert level 1 or 2.
According to the High Court, this measure is considered reasonable as “it would not be feasible to make the conditions of nightlife activity and parties more flexible without requesting these documents”.
Covid certificates can include several documents; proof that the holder is fully vaccinated, proof of a negative Covid test or proof that the holder has recently recovered from coronavirus.
This new rule is due to come into effect at midnight on Saturday October 23 and will be in effect until 11.59pm on November 12.
