ARCHIVED - List of roads still closed by floodwater after the gota fría storm in Murcia on Tuesday
Driving remains hazardous after almost 100 millimetres of rain in San Javier on Tuesday
By Wednesday morning, although light rain was still falling in the city of Murcia, it seems safe to pronounce the second “gota fría” storm to hit the Region in the autumn of 2019 over, with the only Aemet weather warning in place being a yellow alert for strong winds and rough seas along the Mediterranean coastline between La Manga del Mar Menor and Mazarrón.
That alert is due to be lifted at 12.00 midday, though, and as the rain moves away from the Costa Cálida by Wednesday afternoon local and regional authorities are taking stock of the flood damage, particularly in the Campo de Cartagena and along the inland shore of the Mar Menor. The highest rainfall figures on Tuesday were in San Javier, according to both the CHS and Aemet, at close to 100 millimetres, although if the rain which fell late on Monday is also taken into account the total in Los Alcázares is well over 120 millimetres, and both towns suffered flooding similar to that caused by the disastrous storm in September, although on a rather less severe scale.
Unsurprisingly, the list of roads which remain closed due to floodwater (apart from urban streets) includes various routes in the Campo de Cartagena, with those belonging to the regional network being the following as of 8.00 on Wednesday morning:
- the RM-E33 between El Albujón and La Aljorra
- the RM-F29 between Torre Pacheco and Dolores
- the RM-F26 from Balsicas to Los Alcázares
- the RM-F35 between San Javier and La Puebla
- the RM-F28 between Pozo Aledo and La Puebla.
- the RM-F19 between Sucina and La Tercia.
In addition, the Town Hall of Cartagena lists two continuing closures:
- Camino del Sifón.
- The road between Pozo de Los Palos and La Guía.
