ARCHIVED - Injured eagle owl rescued in Albatera, Alicante
The stunning bird was found by a member of the Albatera Partridge Hunting Society in the Vega Baja area of Alicante province
A young female eagle owl injured after flying into a fence has been rescued by a member of the Albatera Partridge Hunting Society and handed over to the local police.
Approximately 80cm tall with a two-metre wing span, the huge eagle owl was discovered in distress on Sunday afternoon.
“We have taken the necessary steps to hand the bird over to the local shelter and hope for a speedy recovery and release,” said Albatera Local Police in a Facebook post, adding: “Many thanks to the Sociedad de Cazadores ‘La Perdiz’ for rescuing this beautiful eagle owl, and for their ongoing help.”
Eurasian eagle owls are found throughout much of Europe and Asia and in parts of northern Africa, and typically live in a variety of wooded habitats, with adults weighing up to three kilos.
