ARCHIVED - Benidorm Mayor makes guest appearance on the TV show set in the town
Agustín Navarro turns TV star for a day on the set in Benidorm
The eighth season of the popular TV show “Benidorm” will feature a cameo appearance by Agustín Navarro, the Mayor of the resort in which the programme is set, as he presides over the prize-giving ceremony at the fictitious Pride of Benidorm Awards.
The season has been being filmed on location since March and Sr Navarro’s appearance was shot on Wednesday in the Hotel Meliá, where he presented awards to the characters Tiger and Joey, played by Danny Walters and Nathan Bryon. The same episode also features an appearance by Joan Collins.
Entering into the spirit of the occasion, Sr Navarro ended his participation in the filming by snapping a “selfie” with local producer Pere Agulló and the actress Jessica Ellerby, who plays Amber.
On 9th May Agustín Navarro presented the genuine Europe Day 2015 award to the series, which is followed by millions in the UK, the main market for the foreign tourists who flock to Benidorm all year round. The synergy between tourism and the television series is recognized by the Town Hall, who year after year go to great lengths to ensure that every possible help is offered to the film crew and cast during their stay in the Costa Blanca, taking maximum advantage of the publicity given to the resort every year by the popularity of the series.
