ARCHIVED - 30 million to be spent widening the CV-95 connecting Orihuela and Torrevieja
The aim is to improve road safety in the Vega Baja, Alicante province.
The Valencian regional government is ploughing €30 million into widening the CV-95 as it passes through the Vega Baja, connecting Orihuela and Torrevieja, a stretch of road used by around 20,000 vehicles every day.
The aim is to increase the capacity of the road, reduce travel times and, above all, improve road safety not only at intersections, but along the whole stretch of road, the regional president, Ximo Puig, revealed during a visit to Rojales today, Tuesday, July 27, where he outlined new projects within the Vega Renhace Plan.
"The main objectives are the improvement of the capacity of the CV-95, the improvement of road safety by converting the current 'T' intersections into roundabouts, the reduction of travel times by facilitating safe overtaking, and the creation of a cycle-pedestrian lane", says Puig, with a view to completing the project within three years.
The need to improve links between the interior of the region and the coast has been raised numerous times over recent years, so this will also be addressed through the transformation of the Camino de la Balsa, to create access to coastal towns, villages and urbanisations in the area.
Work has already begun on improving connectivity and traffic flow, though on a smaller scale, with the installation of roundabouts at the access to Bigastro and Jacarilla, as well as at the junction with the CV-950 at a cost of €4 million.
"In order to speed up the process of widening the CV-95, the collaboration of all the local councils is essential, so the regional government will initiate a series of meetings to finalise all the details", adds Puig.
