ARCHIVED - Another defrauding Brit wanted by Interpol is arrested in Murcia
The British fugitive was on the run since 2020 before being caught in the Region of Murcia
The National Police in the Region of Murcia have arrested a 25-year-old British fugitive who has been wanted by Interpol for the last two years. The young man had an International Judicial Claim issued against him in the United Kingdom for crimes of fraud and money laundering, and his parents were detained in Britain for the same charges in the year he fled for Spain, 2020.
In a desperate attempt to locate the criminal, the UK notified Madrid on Saturday June 4 that one of their most wanted criminals was on the loose. An urgent arrest warrant was issued for the Brit, who is accused of numerous fraud and money laundering crimes amounting to more than £30 million and belonging to several notorious criminal organisations in his home country.
The news comes in the same week as charges were brought against another British citizen in Murcia who scammed potentially thousands of euros from his countrymen for processing TIE and Spanish residency applications.
Locating a possible address for the 25-year-old fugitive, the Spanish National Police launched a covert surveillance operation at his residence just a few kilometres outside the city of Murcia. The Briton was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning.
When Murcia officers raided the wanted man’s home they found a raft of forged identity documents which he had allegedly used to travel to Spain from Gibraltar, and a false documentation charge has been added to his pending convictions.
The detainee is being held by the Investigating Court of Murcia.
