ARCHIVED - Alicante sizzles in hottest May weekend since 2015: weather outlook May 30 to June 2
The mercury reached 37ºC in Elche in the Baix Vinalopo area of Alicante province on Sunday

Alicante city recorded its hottest May weekend since 2015 on Sunday May 29, with temperatures exceeding 36ºC in the south of the province.
As the region basked in conditions more typical of the height of summer, the mercury reached 36ºC in Novelda, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Elsewhere, thermometers shot up to 35.8ºC in Rojales, 35.7ºC in Orihuela, 33.3ºC in Pinoso, 33.1ºC in Villena and 32.8ºC in Alcoy.
However, the stifling temperatures will subside slightly for a couple of days this week.
Monday May 30 will get off to a cloudy start and the mercury will begin to fall slightly, although it will remain high in the Vega Baja area, accompanied by a welcome breeze along the coast and light variable wind further inland.
- Alcoy: 16ºC to 31ºC
- Alicante: 17ºC to 32ºC
- Denia: 16ºC to 30ºC
- Elche: 17ºC to 35ºC
- Orihuela: 17ºC to 36ºC
Light cloudy or clear skies are forecast on Tuesday May 31, and maximum temperatures will continue to decrease in coastal and pre-coastal areas of the province. Light variable wind will tend to be east and southeasterly.
- Alcoy: 17ºC to 31ºC
- Alicante: 18ºC to 26ºC
- Denia: 17ºC to 28ºC
- Elche: 18ºC to 28ºC
- Orihuela: 18ºC to 31ºC
Again, predominantly partly cloudy or clear skies will prevail on Wednesday June 1 with intervals of low clouds and possible morning mist in coastal areas. Temperatures unchanged or rising slightly with lght variable wind, more intense in the afternoon.

- Alicante: 19ºC to 27ºC
- Denia: 17ºC to 29ºC
- Elche: 17ºC to 30ºC
- Orihuela: 17ºC to 33ºC
Moving into Thursday June 2 and the mercury looks set to rise agian despite a cloudy start to the day. Light variable wind will tend towards more easterly breezes in the afternoon.

- Denia: 18ºC to 28ºC
- Elche: 17ºC to 31ºC
- Orihuela: 17ºC to 33ºC
