ARCHIVED - Alicante plans to install food truck and terrace at Agua Amarga Doggy Beach
The city council is looking for someone to manage Alicante city's Doggy Beach services until 2025
Alicante city's first 'Doggy Beach' at Agua Amarga, which has proved to be a huge crowd-puller since opening in 2016, is set to get its own food truck offering snacks for pets and their owners, along with a terrace.
The Alicante City & Beach Tourist Board is currently looking for someone to manage the beach services until 2025 and has put out to tender a three-year contract that this year includes the additional food truck and terrace along with regular seasonal features such as a bar, sunshades and loungers for beachgoers and their furry friends.
"The 'Doggy Beach already has a lifeguard and rescue service from June to September and a dog park, so this tender for the food truck and the parasol area would be a complementary service that would vastly improve the canine beach," explained deputy mayor Mari Carmen Sánchez.
"This initiative enhances the facilities at this pioneering dog beach which is so popular and attracts owners and their pets all year round," she added.
The contract will last for three years, from May 1 to October 15, except for this season when it will start from the day after the new contract is signed.
According to the tender specifications, the food truck may occupy 20m2 with another 50 metres for the terrace. The rental area for sunshades and loungers will occupy a 120m2 plot. They will be open/available from 9am to 1.30am.
The 250 metre-long beach is located south of Alicante city centre on the way to Alicante-Elche Airport and just before the coastal area of Urbanova on the N332.
Although the beach welcomes pets, owners must also comply with some rules to ensure "good coexistence"; be aware of the animal at all times, pick up any poop, carry the animal's updated vaccination card, and carry a leash and muzzle if the breed is considered potentially dangerous.
