Alicante theatre celebrates 175th anniversary with 56 shows between February and June
An exhibition will chart the history of Teatro Principal de Alicante, which opened its doors on September 25 1847

Teatro Principal de Alicante celebrates its 175th anniversary in September, making it one of the oldest theatres in Spain.
And to mark the milestone, a bumper programme of 56 shows aimed at all ages and audiences has been put together from February through to the beginning of June.

- February 10: Arniches Theatre of Alicante (IVC) production of 'La mort i la Donzella' (Death and the Maiden)
- February 12 and 13: Peformance by comedy trio Santiago Segura
- February 16: Piccini lyric gala by José Luis Luri
- February 20: Production of 'La máquina de Turing' (The Turing Machine) depicting the story of mathematician and inventor Alan Turing who cracked the Nazi code
- February 23: 'We Love Rock' musical
- February 27: Performance by comedy actors from the Spanish film Campeones' (Champions)
- March 10: Nabucco opera
- March 13: 'La Tarara' by Alicante writer Josi Alvarado
- March 26 and 27: Comedy 'True west'
- March 29: Aida opera
- April 1: Comedian Pablo Ibarburu
- April 6 and 7: Show by comedian and writer Luis Piedrahita
- April 21: IVC production of El Público' (The Public)
- April 24: 'Kids Queen' show for children
- April 27: Tribute to Dire Straits
- April 30: Comedian and actress Martita de Graná
- May 4 to 6: Performances by comedian David Guapo
- May 7 and 8: Musical 'Vivir así es morir de amor' (To Live Like This is to Die from Love) performed by Alcoy songwriter Camilo Sesto.
- May 13: Theatre production of 'Oceanía' with Carlos Hipólito
- May 20: 'Silencio' by Blanca Portillo
- May 22: Adaptation of Emilia Pardo Bazán's classic 'Los Pazos de Ulloa'
- May 26 to 29: 'The Full Monty' musical
- May 30: Dance performance 'Rebelión'
- May 31: Dance performance of 'El Salto' (The Jump)
- June 5: The national premiere of the family musical 'Caperuza Roja' (Little Red Riding Hood)
