Alicante on alert for scorching temperatures all week: weather forecast July 17-20
Much of Alicante province will bake in temperatures in excess of 40ºC as the third summer heatwave hits
Spain is beginning the week with a third heatwave, with much of the country on alert for extremely high temperatures. And Alicante is no exception, as most of the province will see the mercury hit record highs in the coming days.
Tropical nights have been a regular feature for several weeks now and sadly, these show no sign of abating and the thermometers will fail to dip below 20ºC all week.
Monday July 17 will begin slightly overcast, particularly along the northern coast of the province, but this should clear as the hours go by to reveal a bright and sunny day. The temperature will ramp up significantly, more pronounced inland as an easterly breeze serves to cool things down a little in coastal areas.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Monday
Alcoy: 21ºC to 37ºC
Alicante: 24ºC to 33ºC
Denia: 24ºC to 31ºC
Elche: 23ºC to 35ºC
Orihuela: 23ºC to 35ºC
Tuesday July 18 will easily be the hottest day of the week overall and the north and south coasts and inland Alicante have been issued with a yellow weather alert for extreme temperatures between the hours of 1.30pm and 8.30pm.
Slightly cloudy or clear skies are forecast for the most part, with intervals of low-hanging clouds in large parts of the northern coast in the morning.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Tuesday
Alcoy: 23ºC to 40ºC
Alicante: 26ºC to 34ºC
Denia: 24ºC to 35ºC
Elche: 23ºC to 37ºC
Orihuela: 24ºC to 39ºC
Wednesday July 19 will continue the trend of the previous day with temperatures that could reach as high as 44ºC inland where a yellow warning has been implemented. This weather alert has been upgraded to orange, representing significant risk, along the southern coast.
The day will be slightly overcast across the board, especially in the afternoon, when some showers could hit inland mountainous areas.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Wednesday
Alcoy: 25ºC to 39ºC
Alicante: 26ºC to 37ºC
Denia: 24ºC to 33ºC
Elche: 24ºC to 42ºC
Orihuela: 25ºC to 44ºC
The heatwave will come to an end on Thursday July 20 with a marked drop in temperatures across Alicante. Low morning clouds along the coast should give way to a mostly clear day although the cloud cover will increase inland in the afternoon, bringing the chance of scattered showers.
A variable light wind early in the day will tend to the south and east from noon.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Thursday
Alcoy: 22ºC to 37ºC
Alicante: 26ºC to 33ºC
Denia: 25ºC to 32ºC
Elche: 25ºC to 35ºC
Orihuela: 25ºC to 35ºC
