ARCHIVED - Aguilas publishes details on how expats can vote in local elections in 2023
Here’s how you can register to vote in the local elections next year

Residents living in the Murcia municipality of Águilas who are nationals of countries with agreements recognising their right to vote in local municipal elections, and who meet the requirements established to be able to vote, have 36 days from December 1, 2022 to January 15, 2023 in which they may request to be registered on the electoral census for the 2023 municipal elections.
Applications for registration may be made online, by mail or at the Águilas Town Hall.
The countries with those agreements in force are: Bolivia, Cape Verde, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Iceland, Korea, Norway, New Zealand, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad & Tobago and the United Kingdom.
Nationals of other countries that have agreements with Spain may also apply for registration, if they are in force within the established application period.
As Águilas Town Hall has underscored, the conditions to be eligible for registration are as follows:
- To be over eighteen years of age and not been deprived of the right of active suffrage
- To be registered in the Municipal Register of Inhabitants
- To be in possession of the authorisation of residence in Spain
- To have resided legally in Spain for the time required in the corresponding Agreement (3 years on the day of voting for nationals of Norway, 3 years at the time of application for nations of the United Kingdom and 5 years at the time of application for the rest of the countries). This requirement may be supported by a certificate of residence issued by the police station only
