Aguilas is lit up for Christmas!
Half a million lights set the festive tone in the town of Águilas
As is the tradition in Águilas, in the south-west of the Region of Murcia, the individuals given the honour of performing the traditional switching on of the Christmas illuminations on December 5 were the main protagonists of the Carnival celebrations which will be held in February, and accompanying them was a large crowd of festive revellers in the Glorieta.
Following the ceremony the children in the crowd enjoyed a musical show called “El Rock se Cuela en la Escuela”, while for the grown-ups the highlight was of course the switching on of over 525,000 lights, positioned in 150 arches across the main streets and 6 trees, each of them 8 metres tall. Another tree made entirely from painted empty plastic bottles has been unveiled in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijo, while other decorations in the town include around 1,000 Christmas poinsettias.
