94-year-old woman and her dog saved from house fire in Roldán
The fire, which occurred within the municipality of Torre Pacheco, was quickly brought under control by firefighters
A fire broke out on Monday morning, February 10, in a house on Calle Isaac Peral in Roldán, Torre Pacheco, prompting an emergency response from firefighters, police and medical services.
The blaze, which was reported to emergency services by local man Craig Fame, caused distress to two residents – a 49-year-old man and a 94-year-old woman – and their dog, but the fire was successfully extinguished without any of them suffering major injuries.
Craig said, “I noticed smoke at around 10.08am whilst going to the market. I realised it was a house fire after seeing the smoke billowing from the windows.
“I knocked on the door but there was no answer so I kicked in the door and went in. The smoke was black and thick and I could only get half way down the corridor whilst shouting is anyone there.
“The fire got worse and the heat forced me out side. I the knocked on the neighbours’ doors. An old man answered and I persuaded him to get out to safety.
“After calling 112 all I could do was watch and hope no one was inside. The police arrived quickly and helped evacuate other neighbours. The resident returned from the market and said her dog was still inside.
It was 10.12am when Craig called 112 and 10.37am when the fire department arrived. “Too long really to save anything,” he said. “Two properties were destroyed. The dog was treated by the fire fighters.”
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control by 10.54am and declared it fully extinguished an hour later. During their intervention, they rescued a dog from inside the house, which was found to be in good condition.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and authorities are expected to conduct further investigations to establish what triggered the incident.
