800,000 euros to fix Aguilas streets
The town council of Águilas received 818,181.81 euros from the Spanish government to improve Calle Murcia and the Paseo de Parra
The Town Council of Águilas has received the amount of exactly 818,181.81 euros from the Next Generation Funds of the Government of Spain to expand pedestrian spaces and improve accessibility on Calle Murcia, and for the adaptation of Paseo de Parra and Calle del Aire streets to be able to build and extend the cycle lane, as well as to improve accessibility.
Specifically, the money falls under the Subsidy of the Aid Program for Municipalities for the Implementation of Low Emission Zones and the Digital and Sustainable Transformation of Urban Transport of the Plan of Recovery, Transformation and Resilience.
The two projects to improve Águilas streets under the aegis of this overarching project had a total cost of exactly 1,100,000.00 euros, which the Town Council helped to finance with funds left over in the budget from 2021, through a credit supplement from the Municipal Budget.
On Calle Murcia, as well as expanding pedestrian spaces, improving accessibility and calming traffic, they have been able to install a comprehensive sanitation, sewage, stormwater and asphalt system on what is one of the main access roads to the town.
Meanwhile, on Paseo de Parra and Calle Aire, the work focused on improving accessibility and giving priority to pedestrians and cyclists. The project has involved a readaptation of the road to adapt the cycle lane, along with a reorganisation of traffic flows.
This investment, together with the ambitious 2022 municipal resurfacing plan, which had a budget of 1,800,000 euros, plus 300,000 euros from the project aimed at the reform and resurfacing of the Paseo de la Estación area, represents the largest municipal investment in works on public roads in two years.
Overall, more than 3,200,000 euros have been allocated to the improvement and reform of the town’s streets.
