ARCHIVED - 61-year-old man drowns during trip to Tabarca Island, Alicante
The deceased was from Villajoyosa in the Marina Baixa area of Alicante province

A trip to Alicante's Tabarca Island ended in tragedy on Monday August 29 when a 61-year-old Spanish man drowned whilst swimming in the sea.
The alarm was raised at around 4.30pm and the Guardia Civil's maritime service was quickly sent to the scene, reportedly a transit area for boats.
There was nothing the rescue team could do to save the victim, who is from the coastal town of Villajoyosa, 43km away, and his body was taken to Alicante port.
A post mortem will be carried out to determine the cause of death.
Tabarca is the only inhabited island in the Valencia region and is located in front of Alicante city, 11 nautical miles away and near Cape Santa Pola. Actually more than an island, it is a small archipelago made up of four islets and is approximately 1,8km long.
Last Saturday, a British man, 74, died after suffering a suspected heart attack and falling unconscious whilst swimming at L'Ampolla beach in Moraira. According to data from the Spanish Lifeguard Federation, the Valencia region remains at the top of the table of deaths by drowning so far this year with 41 cases, a position it has held since 2019.
