Many residents across Murcia will soon find their local office shut down for good
Spanish banking giants CaixaBank are going to close 58 offices in the Region of Murcia by December as part of their major restructuring plan, which will also see 6,452 staff lose their jobs across the country.
The unpopular decision comes after CaixaBank merged with Bankia back in March, meaning that there were several cases of overlapping offices, such as on Calle de Trapería in Murcia, where both Bankia and CaixaBank had offices.
Representatives from the company state that this duplication of services is the main reason for all of the closures, but it is still bad news for thousands of employees and residents whose closest bank will be imminently shut down.
In the city of Murcia, the offices which will be closing on December 7 are the ones in Espinardo, La Flota, San Antón, el Infante as well as the banks on Gran Vía and Calle Constitución.
Meanwhile, in the municipality of Cartagena, even more offices are up for closure: Ángel Bruna, Canteras, El Algar, Los Barreros, La Palma, la Gran Vía de La Manga, Colón Avenue and Peral neighbourhood. And, in Lorca, another four banks will soon be shut for good: Jerónimo Santa Fe, Virgen de las Huertas, University and La Hoya.
