2-year-old dead and three other children injured at Murcia fairground
There was tragedy in Alquerías this weekend when a young girl died from electric shock on a fairground ride

A young girl has died after suffering an electric shock at a fairground in the small village of Alquerías in central Murcia. The incident occurred just after midnight on Sunday June 15 during the local festivities, when the 2-year-old collapsed on a trampoline attraction. Despite efforts to resuscitate her for over an hour, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other children, aged 8, 11 and 12, were also injured but are not in danger. Early investigations suggest the electrical system, particularly the earth connection, was faulty.
A judge has opened preliminary proceedings for an alleged case of reckless homicide and injury. No arrests have yet been made, but the Murcia City Council and Guardia Civil are working together to dismantle and inspect the installation.
Witnesses described the area as crowded during the celebrations. Some believe the child may have touched or leaned against a metal fence or railing that carried the current. One neighbour said the child was foaming at the mouth and bleeding from the nose.
The mother was treated for an anxiety attack and several residents described the scene as “horrifying”. Emergency services, including a mobile unit from 061, responded quickly but were unable to save the girl’s life.
Murcia City Council has declared three days of official mourning, suspending all planned festival events. An investigation into the cause of the electrical failure is ongoing.
