2 of 4 French men accused of gang-raping a teen tourist in Torrevieja are cleared
An 18-year-old female Nordic teen was allegedly raped multiple times at a flat in the Vega Baja coastal town, Alicante province

Charges have been dropped against two French men accused of the alleged multiple rape of an 18-year-old female Nordic tourist in Torrevieja.
The Provincial Court has ordered the temporary suspension of the charges against two of the four young men aged between 19 and 22 who were charged with the gang rape last September.
Of the two who have now been acquitted, one was temporarily released after being arrested by the Guardia Civil and brought before the courts, while the other was imprisoned and has spent nine months in Fontcalent prison.
He was released a few days ago due to a lack of evidence after repeated requests from the defense and ultimately the prosecution. His lawyer is expected to make a financial claim to the state to compensate his client for the time spent in prison.
Two other defendants are still in custody and will be tried as perpetrators of a sexual assault punishable by up to 12 years in prison.
The alleged attack took place on September 8 2022. According to the Guardia Civil, the young victim had gone out for dinner with a friend in the Marina Salinas leisure area of Torrevieja when, at some point in the evening, she was left alone in a pub after her friend went home.
As she made her way back to her holiday apartment, she was approached by one of the men. He struck up a conversation with her and they walked together until they came to the flat where he was holidaying with friends.
After allegedly being lured into the apartment, the young woman was raped by the man who had approached her and two other males. Following the horrific assault, the Nordic tourist, who had lost her purse and mobile phone earlier in the evening, managed to flee the flat and ran into the street where she was helped by passers-by who took her to the Guardia Civil HQ.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and the Women-Minor Team (Emume) of the Alicante Command immediately launched an investigation. During a police interview, the young woman was able to give descriptions and told officers she had heard her attackers say they were going water skiing.
Investigators reconstructed the route followed by the victim on the night of the assault and came across a jet ski rental company, where a member of staff confirmed four males had rented skis that morning.
