18th-century Pliego church vandalised by graffiti
Two youths are being investigated for graffitiing the façade of a church in the Murcia town
The Virgen de los Remedios church in Pliego, northern Murcia, has been vandalised with graffiti spraypainted onto its walls and a bench nearby.
The church dates back to the 18th century and has status as an Asset of Cultural Interest. Police are now investigating two young people, one of them a minor, for suspected criminal damage.
The investigation began when the president of the Brotherhood Nuestra Señora La Virgen de los Remedios and the mayor of the municipality of Pliego reported to the Guardia Civil a series of damages, consisting of black spray paint on the façade of the chapel of the Virgen del Rosario, on a bench in a park and on the walls of the municipal sports centre.
Two people were identified as alleged perpetrators, and have been placed at the disposal of the Mula Court of Instruction and the Murcia Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.
The cost of repairing the damage caused could exceed 3,000 euros.
