ARCHIVED - Blind man pays 930 euros for 9.30 drink and bar refuses to return his money
People are up in arms over the Alicante customer’s treatment but the barman says it didn’t happen that way

A blind person accidentally paid 930 euros in a bar in Petrer (Alicante) instead of 9.30 euros and the owner of the bar has reportedly refused to give the money back.
The blind man made the payment of almost one thousand euros by mistake at the end of last month when, after he went to pay, the card did not work and he instead made a Bizum transfer through his phone. When he went to press the numbers, however, he did not insert the break between the euro and cents and transferred 930 euros instead of 9.30.
According to police sources, when the customer realised this, he returned to the bar to claim the money back, but “seeing that they were giving him a hard time”, he went to the Police Station to file an official complaint. The officers, once the case was opened, referred it to the court. The judge has summoned the parties on November 11.
Nonetheless, the owner of the establishment claims that he doesn’t see the logic of going to court “because I didn’t refuse to pay him”. In statements made to Radio Alicante, the barman said that when the blind man went to claim his money back, he explained the situation and told him “that he did not want the money and agreed to fix it the following week”.
“I did not refuse to give him the money,” he insisted. “I have the proof… I agreed to fix it, but that’s when the police showed up.”
