The accident occurred shortly before 8:30pm on Wednesday, July 21, when onlookers contacted the emergency services to report that a young girl had been run over by a car while riding her bike in front of the church of El Albujón, in the municipality of Cartagena.
Sources from the Emergency Coordination Centre reported that the 11-year-old was not wearing a helmet and suffered a serious blow to the head. Her bicycle was reportedly dragged under the car on impact.
