Welcome to Huelva: The Spanish Algarve
See beach and rural property for sale in Huelva province, Spain

The sunny Algarve region in the south of Portugal is a popular hotspot among foreign holidaymakers and property buyers, but did you know that Spain has its own ‘Algarve’ right next door with beaches and resorts that are just as good?
In the very southwestern corner of mainland Spain, right on the border with Portugal and divided from it by the Guadiana River, is the Andalusian province of Huelva, known as the ‘Spanish Algarve’.
With its plentiful sunshine, unspoilt virgin beaches and active cultural scene, Huelva is an increasingly enticing alternative to such holiday hotspots as Portugal’s Algarve and Spain’s Costa del Sol. It is fast becoming a hit with foreigners looking to purchase a home in Spain, not least because property prices are very affordable and haven’t gone through the roof as they have in places like Torremolinos, Fuengirola and Malaga.

For instance, a 2-bed townhouse for sale in Ayamonte goes for just 215,000 euros and comes complete with its own parking garage, a shared community garden and pool, and fantastic views of the Guadiana River and Portugal’s Algarve.
Meanwhile, a 3-bedroom villa in the gorgeous Isla Cristina (not actually an island but a beautiful, quiet seaside town located on the end of an isolated spit of land) will cost you 299,000 euros, and has several patios, a solarium, gardens and its own private swimming pool.
In the neighbouring town of Isla Canela (also not an island), right on the Portuguese border, a 2-bed townhouse in the Los Colibríes residential development can be purchased for 210,000 euros. The complex has tennis, paddle and basketball courts, large garden areas and is very close to beautiful golden sandy beaches and top-quality golf courses.

In the country village of Lucena de Puerto, a 3-bedroom traditional ‘finca’ property costs just 179,900 euros. This large detached rural house sits on a plot of land of 5,516m2, an exceptionally large open terrain with a great outdoor area including a barbecue area, a swimming pool and several horse stables with space for four to six horses, and even a large hay barn.
All these quality properties and more in the affordable destination of Huelva can be purchased from British-run real estate specialists Girasol Homes:
