ARCHIVED - Weather station and air quality sensor installed in Dolores in Alicante province
The meteorological station will provide real-time weather data in the municipality of Dolores, 21km from Orihuela, in the Vega Baja comarca.
Dolores has become the first town in the Vega Baja to install a weather station along with a sensor to monitor air pollution.
The meteorological forecaster will give detailed weather information which will help in the programming of activities and other outdoor events, and allow emergency services to act as quickly as possible ahead of storms and other adverse weather.
The weather station will also offer residents the chance to request detailed expert reports to support insurance claims if they suffer damage to properties or belongings as a result of extreme winds, rain and storms.
It will record: temperature, humidity, dew point, atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction, solar radiation, ultraviolet radiation index, evapotranspiration and precipitation.
While the air quality sensor will measure the concentration of dust and other atmospheric particles - PM10, PM2.5 and PM1 - with "precision and reliability", in addition to calculating the Air Quality Index (AQI).
Real-time data will soon be available at dolores.es and on the Vega Baja meteorological network compiled by MeteOrihuela.
In other measures to be better prepared for torrential rain and storms, Dolores has begun €900,000 emergency hydraulic works to prevent future flooding in the municipality.
