ARCHIVED - Warning to cyclists after popular route is sabotaged in Orihuela
Sharp objects were found on a popular cycling path in Orihuela in the Vega Baja comarca of Alicante province.
Local Police in Orihuela have shared images on social media of dozens of large pushpins deliberately left on a road in Dehesa de Pinohermoso, Orihuela, which is regularly used by cyclists.
The potentially dangerous sharp objects were fortunately spotted this afternoon - World Bicycle Day (Thursday, June 3) - before any damage was caused or anybody was hurt.
The police are investigating the mindless act and urging the public, and cyclists in particular, to be extra vigilant whether they are walking, cycling or driving along paths or roads.
Likewise, anyone who witnesses any type of vandalism or behaviour like this is asked to report it to the police by calling 965 300 204.
