ARCHIVED - Vice-president of Andalusia gives a warm welcome to British tourists
Juan Marín hopes that tourists are prepared to spend “a lot of money” in Andalucía this summer
The vice-president of the regional government in Andalucía, Juan Marín, has publicly welcomed the British tourists, along with their wallets, who have been arriving in the region this week, after the UK lifted its strict quarantine rules for those returning from Spain.
Sr Marín hopes that tourists are “ready to spend a lot of money”, although he asked for precaution in light of the rising Covid figures in Andalucía.
When asked about the lack of quarantine for vaccinated tourists when returning to the UK, the vice-president said “the flexibilization will have a direct impact on tourism” in both cities and coastal areas. He also added that reservations have already increased by 20 per cent since the announcement by the British government.
The politician also stated that he believes that the measures in place are sufficient to guarantee that visitors aren’t carrying the virus.
However, he did call on the population to continue following anti-Covid restrictions, warning that now is not the time to be “walking on the street without masks” or “going to parties until whatever time we want to”.
He also specifically asked businesses to continue enforcing occupancy and curfew rules, while mentioning his desire for the British tourists to provide Andalucía businesses with a much-needed financial recovery.
