ARCHIVED - Valencia health authorities will administer more than 218,000 Covid vaccines this week
The Valencia Health Department plans to administer 218,199 doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines this week in the provinces of Alicante, Castellón and Valencia
A total of 170,007 doses of the Pfizer vaccine and 48,192 of the Moderna vaccine have been distributed to the Health Department across the Valencian Community.
As a result, this week's roll-out of the vaccination campaign will see more than 101,000 people aged 66 to 69-years-old (those born between 1951 and 1955) across the region receive their first jab.
The remaining doses have been earmarked as second doses for people with high-risk conditions and other prioritised groups.
The majority of the Moderna vaccine (over 45,500) is intended for those aged 66 to 69.
The rest will be used to vaccinate healthcare personnel who were given their first dose between April 12 and 18, along with medical staff in private health centres and high-risk groups.
The health department has stressed that this particular age group (66 to 69) will receive their jabs "in order to complete their vaccination in the shortest possible time" as the second dose is normally administered within three weeks of the first in the case of Pfizer, and within four weeks in the case of Moderna.
While the plan is to administer 218,199 doses this week, the health department has actually received 235,870 doses, with a further batch of 14,700 from Janssen.
