ARCHIVED - Until August 15 Annual summer fiestas in La Azohía
Live music, walking the greasy plank competition and plenty to eat and drink outside the church of La Azohía
The annual fiestas in the coastal village of La Azohía are always held in the first half of August, leading up to the national holiday of Assumption Day on August 15 and coinciding with the peak of the summer tourist season, and as usual in 2022 there are a host of family-based activities in which both Spaniards and non-Spaniards are invited to take part.
Most of the events take place in the small square next to the village church and the jetty, beneath the imposing outline of Cabo TIñoso, and this year’s program includes the following:
Tuesday August 9
14.00: Cooking competition to make the best traditional dishes, with the opportunity to taste the entries submitted!
23.00: Live music from Apuntes de la EGB and family bingo.
Wednesday August 10
23.00: Family bingo and “Noche de los Pepitos”.
Thursday August 11
22.30: Pies and pasties dinner, family bingo and disco.
Friday August 12
20.00: Fancy dress parade for both children and adults, starting from the site of the old Guardia Civil headquarters (next to Bodega Molina) and ending in the Plaza Juan Paredes, where there is a performance by the drummers of Batukada Himba.
23.00: Music, dancing and family bingo.
Saturday August 13
19.00: Games and drawing competition for children.
23.00: Live music from Radio Fusión and family bingo.
Sunday August 14
12.00: Greasy pole walking competition on the jetty – take part and get wet!
19.00: Floral offering to the figure of the Virgin Mary.
23.00: Live music from Stolen and family bingo.
Monday August 15
8.00: Musical and floral parade through the village.
14.00: Paella competition.
19.00: Maritime procession of the figure of the Virgin Mary in the bay, followed by Holy Mass in the church.
