ARCHIVED - Unemployment falls for sixth consecutive month in the Vega Baja
Torrevieja has seen biggest drop in job seekers in the Vega Baja, Alicante province
Unemployment fell in 12 of the 27 municipalities in the Vega Baja in July, the sixth consecutive month the number of people out of work has dropped.
Overall, there were 441 fewer job seekers, though there are still 30,889 people unemployed, according to data provided today (Wednesday, August 4) by the Valencian Employment and Training Service.
Torrevieja saw the biggest decline, with 487 less people out of work, but in contrast there were 92 more unemployed people by the end of July in Callosa de Segura, an additional 45 in Orihuela and 41 in Cox.
According to data provided by the Ministry of Labour, July closed with a fall in unemployment of 2,922 people in the whole of Alicante province, compared to the previous month, leaving a total of 171,804 people still out of work.
And the fall in the number of unemployed is mirrored nationally, with the largest monthly decline in history recorded during July, with 197,841 fewer people out of work than during the same month last year when the country was emerging from its first Covid lockdown.
