According to sources, a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction crashed into one of the marble slabs strewn across the motorway and the 46-year-old female driver was hurt in the collision.
Meanwhile, the 43-year-old lorry driver was trapped inside the cab of his vehicle and had to be freed by firefighters. Once he was stabilised by medical staff, he was taken to Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia with serious injuries.
The driver of the car was also stabilised at the scene and taken to the Santa Lucía Hospital in Cartagena in a less serious condition.
Patrols from the Guardia Civil, firefighters from Alhama-Totana and Mar Menor and three ambulances with emergency medical personnel attended the crash.
