Court allow Murcian govt to complete inventory at Corvera Airport
The concessionary, however, must continue to maintain the installations
The regional government of Murcia has today been given the go ahead to continue moving ahead with plans to open Corvera international airport as quickly as possible.
The Order issued today by the TSJ, the Contentious Administrative Tribunal of Justice of Murcia allows the regional government to complete its inventory of the facilities of the airport, monitor and control the installations but orders that the concessionary maintain it in its current condition.
It also gives the regional government the authority to go ahead with the various actions it needs to undertakle in order to initiate proceedings to adjudicate a new contract with a different concessionary.
However, the auto does not permit the regional government to fully take control of the installations as the existing concessionary, Aeromur, must still maintain the installations and ensure that they are kept in good condition. This effectively meansd that the two parties must co-exist within the airport infrastructure until the issue is finally resolved.
Aeromur are fighting the decision of the regional government to rescind its contract to open and operate Corvera airport, so this decision today is a part victory for both parties, as although it allows the regional government to move forward, it still leaves Aeromur occupying the airport.
This is unlikely to lead to any speedy resolution of the situation, meaning that for residents asking when the airport will open there is no new news and for the next few months at least, bookings for San Javier and Alicante will have to continue.
