ARCHIVED - Tourist accommodation occupancy levels in Mazarron reach 90 per cent
Despite travel restrictions due to Covid, the municipality in Murcia enjoyed a “positive summer 2021”
Mazarrón’s tourist accommodation sector has closed the summer season with an occupancy rate of more than 90%, with a number of estabishments forced to hang ‘no vacancies’ signs.
In fact, according to data from the Regional Ministry of Presidency and Tourism, the municipality saw with the highest level of tourist occupancy on the Costa Cálida, specifically during August.
A breakdown of the figures shows that, in July, the average occupancy of all types of accommodation reached 81%, with 80% of hotel accommodation booked, 96% of holiday apartments, and 75% of campsites.
And things improved further in August, reaching 92.20% of Mazarrón’s capacity, before falling to around 50% in September.
As for the origin of the visitors during the summer season, 87% corresponds to national tourists, with the remainder international visitors.
With a relaxation of restrictions imposed to combat the spread of Covid, there has been an increase in activities open to the public in Mazarrón, with film screenings on the beach, evening entertainment, tours and cultural visits attracting residents and tourists alike over the summer.
And a survey carried out by the tourism department has revealed that 84% of were happy or satisfied with the activities put on by the council, with 92% rating the hiking trails “very positively”.
