ARCHIVED - Three people hurt after car crashes into packed Albir beach bar terrace
Police in the Alicante coastal resort 7km from Benidorm have arrested a male driver
For reasons still unknown, a motorist mounted the pavement in Albir and smashed into a packed bar terrace injuring three people.
The crash happened in Avenida del Albir, Alfaz del Pi at around 1.30am on Monday morning, May 30, when, according to police sources, the establishment and others in the surrounding area were full of customers drinking at tables outside.
Avenida del Albir is the main road that runs along the coast with many bars and restaurants, and emergency services said the incident "could have been much more serious" due to the influx of customers and a large number of foreign tourists congregating in the area at this time of year.
Two SVB units and a SAMU ambulance were sent to the area and paramedics assisted three people with multiple bruising. One of them was treated at the scene and the other two, a 37-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman, were taken to the Marina Baixa Hospital in Villajoyosa.
A male motorist has been arrested and the cause of the crash is being investigated.
