ARCHIVED - Three immigrant boats reach Cabo de Palos and Aguilas
43 irregular migrants in total reached the shores of the Region of Murcia
On Saturday September 18, two pateras (migrant boats) reached Águilas, with 17 and nine people aboard, respectively, and another ship, carrying 17 migrants, disembarked in Cabo de Palos.
All of the passengers who reached Cabo de Palos, in the Cartagena municipality, were adult males, while, of the migrants in Águilas, 14 were adult males, three were women and nine were minors. All of the irregular immigrants were Algerian.
These new arrivals, who were taken to Escombreras in Cartagena for PCR tests, bring the total number of migrants to reach the region since Friday to 84.
The immigration problem has been ongoing for quite some time along the Spanish coast, as criminal gangs based in Africa continue to organise trips to mainland Spain while charging migrants thousands of euros for a spot on the pateras.
At the beginning of September, almost 200 immigrants reached the Costa del Sol in just one weekend and a heavily pregnant woman was aboard an immigrant boat which arrived in Alicante on Sunday.
