ARCHIVED - Thousands invested in Altea allotments
Almost ten thousand euros will be spent on improving green spaces in the Marina Baixa town
The Provincial Council of Alicante has confirmed that a total of 9,988 euros will be invested in the maintenance and improvement of public allotments in the town of Altea in the coming months.
According to the Councillor for the Environment, José Orozco, the investment will enable hundreds of local environmentalists to carry out the works which will promote the "landscape integrity within our urban area".
The campaign will see 3,000 euros earmarked for the repair of the irrigation system, the improvement of access roads and the renovation of the municipal garden of El Barranquet. In addition, the funding has paid for a range of training activities in Alter such as the 'Course on ecological and participatory agriculture techniques' and the 'Course on ecological techniques adapted to our garden'.
The remaining 6,988 euros have been allocated to the installation of new signage at several gardens as well as fitting tables and chairs to picnic areas.
"I would like to thank the Department of the Environment for the work to consolidate this project and the help of the Provincial Council so that our municipality is a benchmark in the implementation of urban gardens," Orozco concluded.
