Elderly burgled by false Catastro inspectors in Caravaca
The Town Hall appeals for vigilance to avoid further incidents
The Town Hall of Caravaca de la Cruz has received at least two reports of people feigning to be Catastro officers in order to gain entrance to people’s homes in the city centre before proceeding to rob them of personal belongings.
The intruders have been claiming to be performing reviews in order to update the municipal property tax data, but while one of them keeps the owner talking the other, armed with measuring equipment, performs a quick tour of the rooms in the house and pockets personal belongings.
Residents of Caravaca need to be aware that there is currently no property tax review going on in the municipality, and that should there be one in the future it will be widely publicized throughout the area affected. In the meantime anyone who believes they are the victim of a similar hoax visit should contact the police or the Guardia Civil immediately.
Residents of other municipalities in the North-west are also urged to be on alert against similar scams.
