ARCHIVED - Second helicopter added to the Fire Brigade in Alicante for the summer
The helicopter will be based in the Parque de San Vicent del Raspeig until September
The Provincial Firefighters Consortium in Alicante will be increasing its air fleet to two helicopters from June until September, in order to improve the detection, coordination and suppression of forest fires, as well as other emergencies.
There is normally only one helicopter at the disposal of the Fire Brigade, but since 2020, the fleet has been increased to two for the summer months.
This second helicopter, which has room for six passengers in addition to the pilot, will be based in the Parque Central of San Vicent del Raspeig and will greatly reduce the response time for fires in the province.
In addition, the aerial vehicle will also be controlling agricultural fires and monitoring high-risk areas, including recreational areas and areas of ecological value.
The provincial Fire Brigade will also be reactivating the Santa Pola and Pilar de la Horadada checkpoints for the summer, from July 15 until September 15. In each of these departments there will be a corporal, three firefighters and a vehicle from 10 am until 10 pm every day.
These increased services are necessary for the summer as the population increases exponentially in the province during these months, which also means an increase in traffic that could cause delays in the Fire Brigade’s response times.
There are also concerns about potential forest fires this summer due to the wet spring weather fuelling the growth of weeds and scrublands; potential fuel for summer fires.
