ARCHIVED - Second Murcia earthquake in 7 days between Lorca and Aguilas
A 2.3-magnitude tremor was registered in the municipality of Lorca
During the early hours of Thursday January 13, at around 2am, an earthquake was registered by the National Geographic Institute (IGN) within the municipality of Lorca.
This is the second seismic tremor of 2022, after a 2.7-magnitude earthquake was felt in Cieza on Friday January 7.
Thursday’s tremor registered 2.3 on the Richter magnitude scale and was unlikely to have been felt by any residents due to the fact that most of the population would have been sleeping at that time and because of the epicentre’s rural location close to the Tajo Segura canal near Lorca’s border with Puerto Lumbreras.
Further down the Mediterranean coast, a much stronger earthquake (4.4 magnitude) was registered in the Gulf of Cádiz on New Year’s Day.
