ARCHIVED - San Pedro Carnival 2022 cancelled for second consecutive year
Covid forces yet another Murcia event to be cancelled
The San Pedro del Pinatar Carnival, which is normally held towards the end of February or the beginning of March every year, has been cancelled due to Covid for the second year in a row.
According to the Town Hall in San Pedro, the traditional Carnival, which was scheduled for Sunday February 27, will not take place until 2023 due to the high number of Covid cases in the Region of Murcia.
However, the Festivities department in the municipality has announced that there will be a programme of family activities on February 25, 26 and 27 to partly replace the Carnival.
All Carnival floats have also been invited to take part in the parade set to take place during the patron saint Fiestas of San Pedro on July 10, so all the hard work put into the costumes and floats won’t go to waste.
Another municipality in the Region has also had to cancel one of their traditional celebrations due to the pandemic, with Alhama de Murcia announcing the cancellation of its Romería Candelaria.

The municipality of San Pedro del Pinatar has one principal tourist information office which is open throughout the year, and then other tourist information points which open during the peak summer months. Due to its location on the fringes of the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean coastline, San Pedro del Pinatar has a period of intense summer tourism activity during the peak summer months, although is popular with retirees of all nationalities out of peak season.
Much of the tourism activity is directed into these peak months, although the Salinas natural park and health tourism hotels in San Pedro del Pinatar make this a popular destination throughout the year.
