ARCHIVED - Repair work on Alhambra tower in Granada completed
Experts have repaired a large crack in the wall of the popular and historic Granada tourist attraction
The Adarguero tower of the Alhambra palace has been recently restored, with experts correcting the holes and repairing a crack in the wall which was discovered during routine maintenance work.
The repair work on the tower, located in the Alcassaba, took around a month and the director of the cultural monument, Rocío Díaz, recently visited the palace to take a look at the results.
Alhambra specialists restored the damaged walls using the same pre-existing material and a lime mortar.
Further conservation work is also being carried out on the Paseo de las Adelfas, in the Generalife area of the palace.
All of the maintenance and repair work on the historical palace is carried out in phases so that the public can continue to visit the tourist attraction.
The rich history behind the structure, located in the province of Granada, draws thousands of visitors each year.
Alhambra was constructed between the 12th and 14th centuries and was used by the Muslim royalty who occupied the Iberian Peninsula during that era and has since turned into one of the biggest tourist attractions in Spain.
