ARCHIVED - Property sales in the Region of Murcia reach 11-year high
May sales in the Costa Cálida trebled in comparison with the same lockdown-affected month last year
The latest provisional figures published by the national government on Tuesday, relating to the month of May, report that 1,790 homes changed hands in the Region of Murcia during the month, a total which if it is confirmed will be the highest in any single month since August 2010.
At the same time, in comparison with the same month last year, a staggering 206 per cent increase is reported, the highest among any of Spain’s 17 regions. Those searching for evidence that the Murcia property market has returned to pre-coronavirus levels need look no further!
Equally encouraging is the long-term picture given by the rolling 12-monthly total, which now stands at 16,314. With the first pandemic months of March to May 2020 having been washed out of the total it has now risen by 4 per cent over the last 12 months and by 14 per cent since the start of this year, returning to pre-pandemic levels.
It is no surprise to learn that that during May all 17 regions of Spain reported year-on-year increases in sales, with the national average rise being 107.6 per cent. The increase in Murcia was the sharpest, followed by those in the Canaries (177 per cent) and La Rioja (147 per cent), but for the third consecutive month the Balearics footed the table after recording a rise of “only” 61.6 per cent in comparison with May 2020.
