ARCHIVED - Praise for environmental quality of Orihuela coastal waters
Punta Prima, La Zenia, Cabo Roig and Campoamor beaches in the Vega Baja, Alicante province, boast excellent water quality, according to coastal report.
The Institute of Coastal Ecology has released the findings of its Coastal Monitoring Network 2021 report on the environmental quality of the waters along Orihuela's coastline, in which the results are of excellent water quality, with no "anomalies at all" recorded.
The study assesses the environmental quality through a monthly and annual sampling program to safeguard the coastal marine environment, with a focus on Punta Prima, La Zenia, Cabo Roig and Campoamor beaches in Orihuela's case.
The aim is to gather continuous knowledge of the environmental state of the coastal marine waters, which makes it possible to detect any anomalies or alterations that may occur so that, once identified, the authority can correct them to re-establish natural conditions as quickly as possible.
Delighted with the findings, Orihuela's councillor for the environment, Damaso Aparicio, said that, once again, "the excellent water quality along the Orihuela coastline has been highlighted appropriately for a municipality that has the most blue flags in the whole of Spain".
Alicante province was awarded 74 blue flags - one of the world’s most recognised voluntary awards for beaches, marinas, and sustainable boating tourism operators - this year, with 11 of them positioned along Orihuela's 18km coastline.
