The speeding driver was stopped in the Baix Vinalopo area of Alicante and faces up to six months in jail
A 21-year-old motorist faces a prison sentence of up to six months after being clocked speeding along the El-20 Elche ring road at 191km/h, almost twice the 100km/h limit.
The Romanian man has been charged with an offence against road safety, which could lead to imprisonment and being disqualified from driving for up to four years.
The events occurred on October 5 on the El-20 road linking Elche with the towns of Monforte del Cid and El Rebolledo.
A patrol belonging to the Alicante Traffic Subsector Group was carrying out traffic surveillance work with speed cameras when a vehicle travelling at 191km/h triggered the radar.
Officers immediately stopped the car and identified the driver, who will face charges at Elche Magistrate's Court.
Fines for speeding reached a six-year high in Alicante province last year, when 62,786 fines were issued, according to data from the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT).
And last month, a vain motorist deliberately sped past an radar in Alicante 64 times to get the best profile shot, even stopping to pose near the speed camera in the Marina Alta town Ondara.
