ARCHIVED - Police break up unauthorized Ibiza house party with 600 guests
Sant Antoni parties on as people flout Covid regulations despite increasing incidence rates
The local police force of Sant Antoni in Ibiza report that in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil they broke up an illegal house party at the weekend with 600 people on the guest list, following a tipoff from a member of the public.
Acting on the tipoff, officers located groups of people, all wearing coloured bracelets featuring the words “1001 Nights”, waiting close to a petrol station in Sant Rafel to be collected and taken in vans to a property on the Camí des Taulell. At this venue the police found around 60 people queuing to enter and a further 175 already inside one of the buildings on the plot, dancing and listening to music while not wearing facemasks and making no attempt to observe social distancing protocols.
Having identified the organizer of the event, who faces fines for setting up the party without the necessary licence and for infringing noise regulations as well as contravening the Covid restrictions which are in force in the Balearics, the police then proceeded to evacuate the premises, and counted over 350 people making their way out from various different parts of the property.
Inside, they also found well-equipped bar, complete with fridges, storage areas for drinks and various items of stereo equipment.
During a busy weekend for the Policía Local, they also put an end to another house party with 194 guests in the Camí de Can Prats, where a bouncer was employed on the door for what the organizer claimed was his 50th birthday party. He too is charged with infringing the Covid rules, and the police also report a further 12 cases of offences related to excessive noise during the hours of darkness, 7 in private homes and 5 in public places.
Earlier this month a massive outbreak of Covid occurred in the Balearics when over 2,000 cases were confirmed in relation to students on end-of-year trips to Mallorca from other parts of Spain, prompting the regional government to approve new regulations requiring all members of groups of more than 20 people to present a negative PCR test result carried out within the 48 hours before arrival in the islands or to prove they have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
