ARCHIVED - Playa Honda medical centre to re-open on May 23
Covid continues to cause concern in Cartagena after the lifting of facemask requirements
After restoration and refurbishment which have been paid for by the Town Hall of Cartagena, as well as the installation of precautionary fittings made necessary by the Covid pandemic, the “consultorio” (or surgery) of Playa Honda is set to re-open on May 23 of this year and was visited last week by councillor Manuel Padín, who is responsible for the local govenrment departments of Health and Tourism.
The budget for the work on the medical centre and the local social centre came to over 230,000 euros, and once the consultorio opens it will be staffed by a doctor, a nurse and administrative personnel on weekdays between 11.30 and 15.00.
As Mr Padín remarked during his visit the Covid incidence rates are still high in parts of Cartagena, especially Los Mateos and Pozo Estrecho, and as a result many medical personnel are currently isolating at home and it has been necessary to re-open unit 3-C of the Rosell hospital in the city centre of Cartagena: 20 further staff have been contracted to make this possible.
